About Me

James began playing at the age of 3 on the violin. Over the years, he developed his skills further by taking piano lessons, joined his elementary band in 5th grade as a trombonist, and through middle/high school and college he added other instruments to his repitore, as well as becoming a multi-instrumentalist specializing in low brass and the percussive arts. After graduating from the College of Wooster with a Bachelors of Music Education degree, he moved to Phoenix and taught at the Arizona Conservatory for Arts and Academics from 2. He gained performance experience by performing in a variety of ensembles through high school and college, as well as while teaching, including several contemporary groups such as Japhys Descent 16 years. Though James can teach many different genres of music, his musical personal favorites are classical orchestral works and jazz on a whole, both of which had great influence on his style of playing. James loves music because of its power over the human soul and loves teaching music because he hopes instrumental music as a profession will continue through the ages.
