About Me

Hey everyone! I’m Tyler. I grew up locally, attending Bak Middle School of the Arts and Dreyfoos School of the Arts, where I began building a strong musical foundation as a drummer. From there, I played in local bands around Clematis Street and eventually cofounded Surfer Blood, where rhythm and feel were everything. What started as small local shows grew into international touring, with performances ranging from DIY venues to major stages like Coachella and appearances on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. As an instructor, my approach is structured, encouraging, and tailored to each student’s level. I focus on building strong fundamentals—timing, coordination, and technique—while also helping students gain confidence playing with others and expressing themselves creatively. I place a strong emphasis on musical taste and exposure, guiding students through well-curated material so they develop a deeper understanding of rhythm, style, and musicality. Whether you, your child or a loved one is just starting out or looking to sharpen one’s skills, I can help facilitate in making a drummer people want to play with.
