About Me

Hello! My name is Mckenna. I am a 21 year old soprano music major at Eastern University with a double major in Psychology. My goal is to be a music therapist working mainly with children. Music has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. Starting with lullabies and nursery rhymes, then learning simple piano and recorder tunes and singing along with The Sound of Music. I started violin lessons at age 8, and continued to sing as I grew more confidant with my voice and harmonizing. I was in choir and orchestra both in middle and highschool and performed in 3 musicals that the school put on. My favorite was The magic Flute, where I was cast as Papagaena but also sang Pamina's part behind the curtain for extra support I started taking lyre lessons right before I graduated highschooland still play for my church. As a music major I have become proficient in music theory as well as voice. I've sung in Italian and German as well as English. I am a peer tutor in university and have tutored both Music and Psychology. My mother is a Spanish teacher and my Godmother is a music teacher so I have picked up some tools that I use to help my own students. I've worked at a music summer camp and have helped children with piano, recorder, and singing.

What to expect in my

Beginner - Intermediate

In the movie Ratatouille, the chef announces on tv "anyone can cook." Well actually, anyone can sing too. Yes there are different levels of vocal control and musicality, but everyone has sang Happy Birthday and a favorite song on the radio. Our lessons will start with those embers and fan them into a fire that you can be proud of. We will start with discovering your range through vocal warm-ups and exercises that will be our constant companions throughout our time together. Then, based on your needs and goals, we will build a custom lesson plan and repertoire to help you get to know your voice and use it to lift others up. What to expect in my Keyboard and Piano Lessons

Beginner -

We will start by learning the names of the keys and where they are on the piano so when I say, "play the Ab above middle C" you won't hesitate anymore. We will then learn scales and proper figuring, which finger is 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 on either hand, and where the sharps and flats are. We will then move to chords, the circle of fifths, and finally, two-handed peices. Depending on your goals and needs we can also learn sightreading, Harmony, Music theory, Improvisation and Accompaniment tactics.
