I am a 56 year old acoustic guitar player. I have been playing for 44 years. I have spent the last 15 or so years performing in classic rock bands here in the Tampa Bay area. Over the years I have taught over a dozen people. I usually start by drawing finger graphs of about 8 basic chords, then showing them how to position their hand to correctly play the chord. I then give them a week or two get used to playing them and to pick out a song that they would like to learn. At the next lesson I would teach them their song,and some bar chords mixed with a little music theory. By the end of the 3rd lesson, if they are giving it the time at home, they are usually playing 2 songs to help them along with timing and such.
