Experiance35 years Years

About Me
I have more than 35 years of experience in drums and percussion, with a background that spans live performance, recording, instruction, and production. I began playing in elementary school symphonic band, performing on snare, bass drum, auxiliary percussion, and timpani before transitioning to full drum set performance in sixth grade. Throughout high school, I performed in marching band on snare drum while also gaining experience playing in bands beginning in ninth grade. From 2000 to 2003, I performed in a professionally managed cover band while attending college. In 2001, I transitioned my drumming style from the traditional cross-stick method to the Open Hand technique, leading with my left hand — an approach that became a defining aspect of my playing style. After college, I pursued work as a solo artist, collaborating with a producer in New York City between 2003 and 2007 to record an original solo album. Between 2007 and 2009, I also worked multiple times with a Grammy-nominated recording and sound engineer, further developing my studio and production experience. In addition to performing, I have been learning and refining my skills in sound recording, editing, video production, and mixing since 1995. I consider myself proficient in these areas, though not formally an engineer. Since 2023, I have been the drummer for Impolite Society.

What to expect in my Drum Lessons

Beginner - Intermediate - Advanced

Students can expect a fun, relaxed, and encouraging environment where lessons are tailored to their individual goals, skill level, and learning style. Whether someone is completely new to drums or already has experience, the focus is on building confidence, creativity, solid fundamentals, and a genuine enjoyment of music. Lessons are taught on real acoustic drums to help students develop proper technique, coordination, timing, and overall feel behind the kit. Travel lesson kits and drum mutes are also available when needed for quieter practice setups. Students will learn more than just beats and songs — they’ll build rhythm, coordination, listening skills, and self-expression in a positive, low-pressure setting. Creativity is strongly encouraged, because at its core, drumming is something everyone naturally connects with. Along with drum instruction, students also benefit from real-world experience in sound recording, editing, and mixing, helping them better understand music beyond just the instrument itself. Most importantly, students should expect to have fun while learning an instrument that’s great for stress relief, confidence-building, brain development, and even a solid workout.
