About Me

I have always loved music since I was a little girl, specifically I have always loved to sing. Throughout the years as a vocal student at Kutztown University and as a music artist myself under the name Lani Best I have learned several different techniques to get the result that I want from the voice. Here is my teaching statement: Repeat after me: “My voice is a gift, I will nurture, honor and cherish it. Practice makes progress, it helps me to become my best. My voice is unique to me, and I will use it to positively impact the lives of others.” That is my motto for my students. I believe that everyone possesses the ability to sing, it is just whether or not they are teachable and willing to accept help and grow in their craft. I want to teach my students that singing isn’t just about sounding good, it’s about telling a story. Comparison to another person is pointless because no two voices are exactly alike. My goal is to help my students find their voice that is unique to them, and help them become the best that they can be using various vocal techniques. We will build their vocal techniques and endurance together through hard work. We will also learn about proper vocal care for our health since our instrument is our body. In addition to helping them find their voice I want to challenge them to expand their range and step out of their vocal comfort zones. In my classroom/ lesson, it is perfectly ok to mess up and try something new, that is how we learn and discover new things about our voice that we never thought that we could do. By doing all of this we will build a repertoire filled with the best songs for them vocally that they can execute to the best of their ability at whatever time they choose. Most of all I want to create a genuine joy for singing within them, not an environment obligation from whatever outside forces or opinions may occur. A singer is just as much of, sometimes even more of musician as a person who physically plays an instrument and it is time that the music world starts believing that.
