He gained performance experience in the church and concert area by playing at such venues as live concerts, as well as church services, and with acts such as Follow the Fire. Though Joel can teach many different genres of music, his musical personal favorites are Ben Harper and Neil Pert which had great influence on his style of playing. Joel loves music because it is a pure form of expression of talent and loves teaching music because the next generation is important.
