About Me

“Where words fail, drums speaks.” says Adam. Having played the drums for 36 years, it is an expression he believes “speaks” volumes. Taught by a special person with special experience, drumming is a constructive way to communicate, release aggression and transform destructive urges into creativity. Drumming can be a surprisingly soothing activity, not just a form of anger management but a relaxing outlet for everyday frustration and stress. As the step father of two special needs children with multiple special needs, Adam has a great deal of hands-on experience. The techniques used by Adam are also extremely successful with autistic adults and children and those with Asperger’s Syndrome, as drumming is an effective method of communication and self-expression for people who have trouble with spoken language. For Attention Deficit and Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) students, drumming develops concentration and attention skills; for others, memory skills. Alzheimer’s patients have even been known to become more lucid after drumming sessions. Playing drums offers physical as well as psychological release. It is an effective form of exercise and a way to diminish physical tension. The best part is that everyone can beat on a drum. Despite the fact that some have it anyway... it requires no skill to be fun. Adam teaches students to read music, play along with music (of any style, their choice, jazz, rock, rap, metal) or just let them play (jam), depending on the preference of the student and/or their guardian. Adam finds that learning to play their own music builds anticipation for his students. Regardless of the method or music chosen, students experience improved hand-eye coordination, increased confidence and enhanced self-esteem. In light of all the benefits it instills, it’s no wonder at all
