About Me

Hey hey, my name is Mac. I've been playing guitar/bass and writing songs for about a decade now, and I'd love to share my experience with anyone who is wishing to pursue their own passion for music. Playing music has brought me so much peace and joy, so more than anything else I hope to help you find the same through your instrument! My tastes range from classic blues, to all varieties of jazz, funk, indie and folk, heavy rock, and a little acoustic country, too. I've always loved the playing of Stevie Ray Vaughan, David Gilmore, Santana, EVERY musician who played with James Brown, and more recently Mark Speer from Khruangbin. I have limited experience teaching music, but I have a bit of gigging experience, and I've worked as a volunteer teacher in the US and Morocco. Let me help you gain some confidence in your playing and make some music!

What to expect in my Bass Guitar Lessons

Beginner -

For our first session learning the bass, I'll go over the basic anatomy of the instrument, it's place and importance in music, and the mentality of a bass player (which can be as varied and creative as that of any other musician). We can get into why you've decided to pick up this deep and soulful instrument, who inspires you musically, and what kind of music you would like to make. I'll also introduction to the notes on the fretboard, scales, and basic music theory-Tutorials for beginner songs so you can start playing music straight away-Tips for learning new songs, and help figuring out how to play along with your favorite music-Tips for feeling out the rhythm and timing of songs (crucial for a bass player!)-Resources for practicing and improving once the lesson is over. The bass is easy to learn, but nearly impossible to master. It's one of the most essential instruments in most modern music, and I'd love to help you take hold of it! The world can never have enough bassists. I have extra instruments and can provide practice gear if necessary.

What to expect in my Guitar Lessons

Beginner -

In the first lesson of a beginner course, I'd like to know why you're drawn to the guitar and what your goals are with the instrument. Knowing what kind of music you enjoy, what inspires you, will help to guide our lessons. In addition to tailoring each session to your musical tastes, you can introduction to chords, scales, and rudimentary music theory-Recommendations for easy songs so you can begin making music immediately-Help learning the songs you love, adapted for your current level of playing ability-Tips for singing and playing-Tips and guidance for playing comfortably (the guitar is a very physical instrument!)-Resources to help you practice and improve once the lesson is over. I'll help you figure out all the tricks I wish I would have learned in the beginning, and you'll become a real guitarist in no time. I have extra instruments andcan provide practice gear if necessary.
