About Me

My name is Katie. I play the piano and keyboard fluently. I also teach these instruments. I can play to level 4. I have been playing since the age of 3. I am now 47 years of age. I started teaching at the age of 25..I started taking formal lessons at the age of 12. By age 14 I was playing for my home church, Church of Christ Holiness USA. I continued there until the age of 31. I then transitioned to play for my current home church, Right Direction Christian Ministries. I love music because it soothes the soul, it brings joy, and it is a great pass time. My brother is my greatest influence. At a young age he taught me. When I was 3 he would play something and I would go right behind him and play the same thing. We are 5 years apart. Some other influential people are Alicia Keys and John Legend. Some of my favorite genres are Gospel, R&B, Jazz, and classical. My approach to teaching is fun and games along with theory, and practice, practice, practice. I have taught privately and with Memphis Shelby County Schools. Some of the schools I have taught at are Downtown Elementary, Sherwood Elementary, Craigmont High, and Southwind Elementary. I teach Alfred's Basic Piano Library and Bastien. I own a Henry Miller Piano. I play a Yamaha keyboard at church. At school there are Yamaha Piano's and keyboards. I have also played Roland digital piano's at various schools. All in all, I am meant for music and music is meant for me
