About Me

David started lessons at age 6, just before his 7th birthday. When he was 8 years old he was already playing Sunday School hymns. At age 12 he was accompanying for the solos of band students, and the vocal music teacher asked him to play for choral practice because he was better than the teacher! When he was 13 he was playing organ in church, and playing piano in his community theater group for many musicals. The piano work continued even through college. Then he became a collaborative pianist, playing for vocal-and instrumental recitals for graduate level and for professionals. David tries to instill discovery of how the piano works as a machine into the lessons. In his lessons, you will learn Touch & Tone production, Posture at the Piano, Dynamics, Style, Music Theory and Ear training. Later you will be introduced to transposition and improvisation. David's lessons are enjoyable and even fun! He will show you how to break apart complex rhythms and make games to show you how to prepare such passages.

What to expect in my Keyboard and Piano Lessons

Beginner - Intermediate - Advanced

Expect to have fun. If it isn't, at least, enjoyable a student will not want to practice. I try to make each lesson the most enjoyable. Expect to learn all aspects of the piano (as a machine), and the techniques for it. I expect the student to practice at least as long as your lesson, and you must practice EVERY day--including weekends and holidays. You must treat your practice like your school homework. You will not advance by waiting until the day before to practice for your lesson. I would advise you to practice intently AFTER your lesson so that you continue with the correct notes and techniques. If you wait for a couple of days, you may not remember how you played in your lesson. I expect one parent or guardian be present at your lesson to protect you and me.
