Ziwei is a harpsichordist and early keyboard specialist, with a particular focus on continuo playing and collaborative performance. He is active across the United States and China in solo, chamber, and orchestral settings. He currently serves as a continuo player with the J415 Baroque Orchestra, and has performed at venues including Lincoln Center, The Frick Collection, Carnegie Hall, Yale University’s Woolsey Hall, Harvard University, Trinity Church Wall Street, and First Church in Cambridge, among others. As a continuo player, has collaborated with leading Baroque artists and ensembles such as Tafelmusik, Yale Schola Cantorum, Vocal Tenet, Masaaki Suzuki, Rachel Podger, Laurence Cummings, Lionel Meunier, Nicolas McGegan, and Julian Perkins. Beyond continuo work, he is also active as a soloist, with performances on both harpsichord and piano internationally. While comfortable across a range of Baroque national styles, his recent work is especially centered on French Baroque repertoire and the keyboard music of J.S. Bach. In 2024, he recorded Bach’s Goldberg Variations on harpsichord. has studied harpsichord with Peter Sykes, Béatrice Martin, and Mark Kroll, alongside training in basso continuo, organ, and improvisation. He is currently pursuing a Master of Music degree at The Juilliard School in New York, where he is a recipient of multiple scholarships. Prior to this, he earned his Master of Music in Piano Performance from Boston University with distinction. He began his musical studies at the age of 12, first training in ear training and solfège with his father and piano with his mother, before continuing with advanced piano studies. During his undergraduate years, he received several top prizes in national piano competitions. After graduating in 2018, he worked in Shanghai as a piano instructor and choral conductor. In 2022, he continued his studies at Boston University, where his growing interest in Baroque repertoire, through coursework and ensemble work which led him to pursue harpsichord in seriously. He later studied with Mark Kroll and Peter Sykes and was subsequently admitted to The Juilliard School. Outside of music, enjoys cooking, especially Asian cuisine, and has a strong interest in vintage clothing, which reflects his broader engagement with historical culture.
