About Me
Adam has been singing and playing music since he could first get his hands on it. Performing in choir, theater and local camps/ programs. Adam specializes in vocals, though he has close to 15 years experience on piano and conversely 5 on drums. He is also an avid producer, arranger and songwriter, fusing styles of R&B, Jazz, Soul, Rock, Hip-Hop, and even musical theater. Adam is a well rounded, and deeply experienced musician as a student of various trades. Adam gained an interest in teaching at his time as a Berklee College of Music student. His deep knowledge of theory, and practical application was always recognized as the “student professor” in harmony and ear training classes. Aiding his classmates with simple metaphor and prose to splice information using the “Feynman Technique”. He has had freelance experience in teaching voice not only as a leader of On The Vox a capella, but in personal one-on-one as well. Stemming from great mentors such as Linda Balliro, and Jerome Kyles. As a vocalist, Adam has a lot to offer in terms of empirical experience. As far as the piano, Adam has always had a different way of playing and learning music. Stemming from a physical disability in his arms and joints, called Arthrogryposis. This limits mobility in his arms and hands. Therefore, piano functioned like a puzzle to crack. His deep intimate knowledge of harmony is enforced by this pretense. He isn’t going to play Mozart, but he will teach you how to turn around a chord in every possible way, and use sophisticated voicings to do so. As a piano instructor, Adam has lot to offer as well. And on drums, Adam’s skill is intermediate, nevertheless, he has a strong internal clock. This will be beneficial in teaching how to initiate these grooves to a student. By not just practicing with a metronome, but grooving with it, a student will gain the first essential skill in drumming, rhythm. To summate, Adam is a well rounded and experienced musician. His experience in a wide array of styles and discipline serves to show what an asset his teaching style is. It’s often trite to finish with a quote, but if you’ll humor me. Einstein once said “If you can’t explain it simply, you don’t understand it well enough”, and I live by this philosophy. Taking something complex and esoteric like music, and breaking it down into understandable chunks. Above all other skills and facets, that is my biggest strength.
