About Me

Hey everyone! My name is Maxim ! I grew up part time in Sarasota and part time in Western North Carolina. I have 18 years of drumming experience playing everything from big band jazz to rock and everything in between! Growing up, I was classically trained as a jazz drummer and played in school jazz bands and jazz combos from middle school through college. Through these years, I also played gigs throughout the Sarasota-Bradenton area with several different bands, spanning several genres. I’m currently a Masters student in the education program at USF and have been involved with athletic coaching for years as well. Music and teaching have always been passions of mine and I love to share that with my students! My favorite drummers are Dave Grohl, Chad Smith, Tony Royster Jr. and Christ Turner. I’ve always played a lot of different genres and my drumming style has been influenced by all of them. I specialize in jazz, funk, pop, rock, and metal, but am comfortable teaching from the ground up so my students can have the tools to pursue whatever style of music they are passionate about. I love working with students of all ages and skill levels. My teaching philosophy is to use goal oriented lessons while giving the students the building blocks they need to achieve those goals. Teaching the fundamentals in a way that incorporates my students’ favorite songs and artists keeps things fun and engaging! Thank you for checking out my profile and I hope to see you soon!

What to expect in my Drum Lessons

Beginner - - Intermediate

Students interested in my drum lessons should expect to learn a lot and above all else, have fun! Rather than just teaching the rudiments and the basic drumming techniques by themselves, I like to use my students’ passions and interests to provide a framework to learn in. For example, I like to give goal oriented lessons and I do this by having my students tell me their favorite bands, songs, or drummers. Through these songs, we will learn and apply the rudiments of drums. This allows us to ground the hard work of learning an instrument in our love of music! There’s nothing better than playing along to your favorite song!

Formal Education:

Aside from my English and teaching degrees, throughout my traditional schooling, I went through music intensive VPA programs and Jazz Band classes from middle school through college.

Private Education:

To begin my drumming journey, I spent 5 years taking private jazz lessons. This provided me a strong base to expand into other genres.

Performing Experience:

I performed throughout my educational career. I come from a highly respected music program and have played everything from local jazz and blues festivals to weddings. Outside of school, I have played with several different bands at venues, bars, and restaurants throughout southwest Florida. I’ve been playing these kinds of gigs for the past 15 years.

Experience Teaching:

I have several years of giving private drum lessons as well as an extensive background in youth athletic coaching as well as the teaching experience that I’ve gained from my time in the Education Masters program at USF.
