Joe Lu

Joe has been playing drums for over 15 years and has been teaching for the past six years. He earned a degree in Jazz Performance from Virginia Commonwealth University, where he also studied classical percussion. At VCU, Joe played drum set for the Jazz Orchestra II, congas and Latin percussion in Jazz Orchestra I, and received the Jazz Students Scholarship in his final year. Joe has had the pleasure of taking private lessons from many world renowned artists such as John Riley, Dennis Chambers, and Mike Clark. He specializes in jazz, rock, funk and metal and has a special interest in Afro-Cuban and Brazilian percussion. He also plays vibraphone and marimba, composes, and has an extensive knowledge of music theory. His main goal as a musician is to be completely comfortable playing and teaching all styles of music the drum set is involved in.
