About Me

I started playing drums at age 9 and haven't quit music since. I started by learning punk rock but then gradually got into some more technical/alternative/progressive music to push my limits in what I could do. I played "Tom Sawyer" by Rush at my middle school talent show. I've also played in punk, metal, and alternative bands playing bass, drums and guitar. Most recently I've been writing solo acoustic songs to play around saturday markets or wherever I can get a gig. My drumming style could be described as Bill Ward (Black Sabbath) mixed with Travis Barker (Blink 182). When it comes to teaching I've been using the idea of adapting to my students' mind rather than a strict book-based curriculum and its given me good results so far, not that I'm unwilling to use music books. I've just been teaching myself how to teach by doing some free lessons and I'm feeling good enough to start charging because my teaching methods have worked out well.

Formal Education:

I started in percussion in the band program in middle school and eventually got into marching band (drumline), jazz band, jazz choir, and pep band in high school.

Private Education:

I've taken some guitar and drum lessons when I was first learning but after I learned the basics and how to learn I took off with it by teaching myself for the past 10 or so years.

Performing Experience:

I can honestly say I've never had stage fright because I've been performing since middle school including not only school band performances but also my first punk band started playing shows in 8th grade so I've got about 10+ years performing in front of people.

Experience Teaching:

I'm somewhat new to teaching but I seem to have a knack for it. I've only been teaching for about 2 months but my students respond quite positively to the way I'm figuring out how to teach and I'm actually at the point where I'm starting to write curriculums for my students so my lessons can have some consistency and structure.
