Derek V has been teaching music professionally since 2000. Specialties include guitar/ mandolin/ bass/ banjo and music production.
He has given private and group lessons as an adjunct professor at the University of Colorado and Naropa University in Boulder, Colorado. He has also taught private lessons via Brooklyn Music Lessons in New York City, The Lesson Studio in Colorado, and online with Strumschool.com. Derek has also traveled the country giving live electronic instrumentation workshops using the music software "Ableton Live."
Having played in over 100 bands, he is comfortable in dozens of musical genres, but enjoys teaching modern rock, classic rock, folk, pop, country, heavy metal, bluegrass, funk, jazz, classical and music theory.

Derek holds a B.M. in Guitar Performance from the University of Colorado, and a B.M. in Music Production from Middle Tennessee State University.

Derek took private guitar lessons on a weekly basis from the age of 12 until 25.

Derek has toured the country for several years now, with notable performances at Red Rocks Amphitheater in Colorado, the Great American Music Hall in San Francisco, and The Fillmore in New York City.
