About Me

Sofia’s music career began in Boston, where she was exposed to exceptional musicians and artists at the Berklee College of Music. She has played with numerous music groups in the last nine years. At the Berklee, Sofia was fortunate to be placed in an ensemble taught by Esperanza Spalding, who saw her work ethic and told the class that Sofia would be famous one day. The Grammy award-winning artist is currently her biggest role model. Sofia’s aim is to create heartfelt music and achieve success with integrity. She doesn't care about being famous, just about making a living with music. She was also fortunate to experience the Tuesday funk nights at Wally’s Jazz Café in Boston. The house band’s members have played professionally with Brian McKnight, Beyoncé and Chaka Khan amongst others. She sat in with the band, learned through experience and advanced her musicianship. She was also taught by Jackie Santos (Tavares, Chuck Berry), Rod Morgenstein (Dixie Dregs), Tony "Thunder" Smith (Lou Reed), Kim Plainfield (Pointer Sisters, Tania Maria), and Kenwood Dennard (Prince, Miles Davis). She is especially grateful for having the honor to work professionally with HuDost, Regi Wooten (brother of bass virtuoso, Victor Wooten), Paul Brown (producer, music director and keyboardist for Ann Peebles and Bobby Rush, played with Al Green and the Bar Kays) Bobby Rush, Latimore, Toni Green, David Hudson, Charlie Woods, Falisia Janaye, Woody Pines, Eldon Huff, Andy Gibson (wrote number one hit, "Don't You Wanna Stay", Ella Mae Bowen (featured on the Footloose 2011 soundtrack), Al Holbrook Band, CoJo & The Konnectts, Guns of Navarone, Ryan Beke, Andre Vasconcelos, RB Stone, Dan Hagen and Minnie Murphy.
