I've been playing guitar for seven years, and I study all genres of music. My passion is playing heavy metal music, but I enjoy all genres of music and various types of cultural and world music. I enjoy taking music that is not performed on guitars such as theme songs, classical pieces, cultural music, etc., and "transposing" it to guitar. I strongly believe that music theory is not required to learn to play the guitar, nor is it required to excel at the instrument. I cater to the preferred method of learning of the student and understand the desire to rock! I like to entertain the student's fascination with the instrument. I have been in the situation where a teacher's strong academic approach to music has a sort of "de-mystifying" effect on learning, often analyzing something that seems "magical" or "mesmerising" and reducing it to a simple explanation of a chord and diatonic function takes away the fun of guitar! That is my highest priority, teaching how to have fun with a beautiful instrument.
