My name is Isaiah and I play both electric guitar and upright acoustic bass. I am currently 32 yrs old and go to Cabrillo College where I major in music taking classes from Ray Brown, Fred Sqatrito, and Sue Brown. I have been playing since 6th grade and during high school won a maestro award at a local heritage festival. I currently am hired to play for the jazz singers at both Soquel High and Cabrillo College under Mark Bidleman. I also play around town at coffee shops, resturants, bars, private parties, and recently I got a group to play for a wedding. I also play for musicals which I find really challenging, but also fun and rewarding.
I am really into 70s era funk because I believe that is where the best basslines are found. ie: Tower of Power, P-Funk, Earth Wind and Fire, Sly and the Family Stone, and anything with Harvey Mason. I am also into jazz favoring Dizzy Gillespie, Sonny Rollins, Ray Brown, Oscar Peterson, and Niels Peterson.
I am also proud to say that I teach with a mixture of playing, listening, ear training, and when applicable, I include music theory.
