Harris has been a professional performer and teacher for over fifteen years. Growing up in Kennesaw, Georgia, he was immersed in roots-oriented southern music. Harris began playing guitar at age thirteen, following his exposure to Duane Allman and the Allman Brothers Band; and, by age fifteen, he was performing with his own band around the Atlanta area. Following high school Harris attended the Berklee College of Music, where he studied Jazz guitar performance for two years.
While attending Berklee he heard the classic Tony Rice album “Manzanita” and caught the bluegrass bug. Soon thereafter, Harris purchased his Collings D1A and hasn’t looked back (though he does maintain an interest in a wide variety of musical genres as both a teacher and player). For the last three years, Harris has performed regularly around the Southeast with his trio Control Burn. This has afforded opportunities to play with some of the best musicians in bluegrass, including Matt Flinner, John Stickley and Tyler Grant, to name a few.
