About Me
I am a bassoonist and instructor currently living in Phoenix, Arizona. I regularly perform with orchestras and chamber music projects, and I will be performing the Mozart bassoon concerto with The Scottsdale Philharmonic in April 2015. In addition to performing with classical music groups, I'm a founding member of Dry River Yacht Club, a gypsy folk rock band.

Kristilyn W has over 7 years of music experience in the Tempe area.

Formal Education:

I received my Doctorate of Musical Arts (DMA) in bassoon performance from the Ohio State University in 2011, and my Masters of Music in bassoon performance from Arizona State University in 2008.

Private Education:

Former private lesson instructors include Karen Pierson, Dr. Albie Micklich, Dr. Jeffrey Lyman, and Jeffrey Robinson

Performing Experience:

I'm currently principal bassoonist with Arizona Pro Arte and The Scottsdale Philharmonic, and I frequently substitute with other orchestras in town.

Experience Teaching:

I have over 10 years of experience working with students at all skill levels, from beginners picking up the bassoon for the first time to young professionals looking for audition and performance coaching. Lessons with me are positive, supportive, and tailored to each individual's goals and needs.

Bassoon Instructor

Kristilyn has instructed my son over the last two years in bassoon technique, performance and sound. He began lessons with her his junior year of high school and has continued them into college. She has individualized lessons tailored to his music needs, upcoming auditions and goals, and she has mentored and encouraged him, showing her readiness to help him advance to his potential as a musician as well as being understanding while promoting a strong work ethic.     Kristilyn Ohio State University

    Kristilyn was my first DMA student at OSU. She had studied with me in high school and for two years of her undergraduate degree in Houston, Texas. I was delighted to work with Kristilyn as a doctoral candidate. She is responsible, kind and conducts her music career with a great deal of integrity.
