About Me
My name is Derek and I've been studying music since 2004. I am currently pursuing a degree in Music Education, and I love working with children/young adults and passing along musical knowledge to any willing to pursue it. I pride myself on being a polite and patient individual and strive to be well-organized and warm-hearted in both my personal and professional life.

I have studied Classical Violin for 7 years under the direction of Christy Fine with the Summit Middle School and Santa Fe Highschool Orchestras as well as 1 year of Drum study under Brent Berry through the Academy of Contemporary Music at the University of Central Oklahoma and 2 years of Classical Guitar study under Scott Johnson at the Univeristy of Central Oklahoma.
Private Education:
I have taken a handful of private Drum and Guitar lesson but for the majority of my studies I have been self-taught. I have been studying Drums, Bass, and Guitar since 2010.
Performing Experience:
I have performed with the Summit Middle School and Santa Fe High school Orchestras many times and have received many Superior and Excellent ratings in both Solo and Ensemble Contests. I have performed with the University of Central Oklahoma's Guitar Ensemble and have also played in several local bands in Oklahoma City.
Experience Teaching:
Much of my teaching experience has been through the University of Oklahoma's Music Education Program. I am pursuing a degree in Music Education currently and have no doubt that given the opportunity to teach will be a learning experience for myself as well.

My 10 yr.old started taking lessons from Derek and the first lesson he new he had found his instructor. He left the lesson confident and ready to do the work Derek sent home for him to practice.
