Since before he can remember, David has been studying and performing music. At an early age he began taking piano lessons and singing in his school choir. Showing an aptitude for all things musical, his parents encouraged him to learn more. For 9 years, David studied trombone and performed in many school concerts and statewide competitions. Still not satisfied, he began to teach himself to play the guitar, bass guitar, hand drums and performed in several local bands in Warrenton including Trees, a reggae funk group. By chance one day when he was 19 he was introduced to a bass player named Jaco Pastorius and knew he had to pursue an education in this field. He quickly applied to Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA where he spent several semesters leading many ensembles and performing in local groups off-campus.
After returning home, he began teaching lessons at Drum n Strum but was called out to Austin, TX to form a group with fellow Berklee students. Once there, he found himself taking the bass chair for Jean Claude Van Jamme, a nine piece brass funk band inspired by such eighties cartoons as Voltron and Gundam Wing. Music is a language, one that anyone can learn. Given his vast array of performing experience and knowledge of theory and composition, David can teach any style of music at all skill levels. Lessons may include but are not limited to reading and writing music, sight reading, composing lines and deconstructing lines from your favorite songs, music performance, and how to play with a band. David is easygoing, patient, and loves all things musical, making him an ideal music teacher.
David H. has over 12 years of music experience in the Warrenton area.
