About Me

I have been performing and teaching music for the past 20+ years. I began my musical journey playing the flute at age 11, and I quickly fell in love. I became passionate about music and wanted to learn everything I could. In junior high school I wanted to join the jazz band, but was told that flute was not an instrument used in jazz. I didn't let that deter me, and began learning the saxophone and have played jazz ever since. I hold a degree in music performance on the flute from DePauw University with a jazz studies minor on the saxophone. I also play and teach clarinet and piano, although flute and saxophone are my true loves. I teach lessons out of my home studio in beautiful Castle Rock, Colorado where I live with my husband, my 2 dogs, and my cat. I play in the Canyon Winds Band and the Pikes Peak Flute Choir in Colorado Springs, and I perform anywhere else I can with any chance I get.

Formal Education:

I received my Bachelor's of Music in Music Performance from DePauw University on the flute, and also received a minor in jazz studies on the saxophone.

Private Education:

I have studied flute, saxophone, and piano privately for over 20 years. I have studied piano with Carolyn Cassidy and Amanda Thompson at DePauw University. I have studied flute under Rebecca Price-Arrensen (Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra), Karen Moratz (Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra, Butler University), Anne Reynolds (Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra, Indianapolis Chamber Orchestra, DePauw University), and Barbara Kallaur (Indianapolis Baroque Orchestra, Indiana University). I have studied saxophone under Ned Boyd (Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra) and Randy Salman (Belusi-Wallarab Jazz Orchestra, DePauw University).

Performing Experience:

I have been playing the flute and saxophone for over 20 years, although flute is my main instrument. I have performed in the Lafayette Symphony Orchestra, Lafayette Citizen's Band, and Lafayette Flute Choir, all in Lafayette, Indiana. I have played with the Heartland Community Flute Choir in Omaha, Nebraska. I currently reside in Castle Rock, Colorado, and I perform regularly in churches and at weddings, and I play with the Pike's Peak Flute Choir and the Canyon Winds Band, both out of Colorado Springs. While at DePauw I played with the univeristy band, orchestra, jazz band, and flute choir. In high school I performed in marching band, concert band, jazz band, pep band, and the New World Youth Symphony Orchestra in Indianapolis. I also performed in All-State Band, All-State Marching Band, and All-State Orchestra.

Experience Teaching:

I have taught private lessons myself starting in high school and continuing through college. After receiving my degree from DePauw, I started a private music studio in Lafayette, Indiana, where I had 25-30 private students. I also taught regular sectional work and marching band work at local middle schools and high schools. I was on staff at Sunny Side Middle School, Pioneer High School, Harrison High School, and Lafayette Jefferson High School- all in the the north central Indiana area. Since moving to Colorado, I have taught privately from my home as well as worked for 3 years at Lucci Music in Colorado Springs. At Lucci, I taught flute, piano, saxophone, and clarinet to students of all ages. I am currently focusing solely on teaching from home to make the most impact, although I do help some with sectional work at Chatfield High School and Deer Creek Middle School in Littleton, Colorado.
