Leon W.-

Born and raised in the Bahamas, I had a passion for music early on as I gravitated toward the snare drum. I was groomed and developed in my church band where I would eventually fall in love with the trumpet. From here my new love for the trumpet afforded me the opportunity to attend and receive formal training at the Magnet School for the Performing Arts in the Bahamas.

At the school, I also received formal lessons on the piano and eventually began playing in church. In high school I was often the student of choice to represent the school on both instruments. From here I made the choice to make music a life long passion with the commitment of attending college.

After high school I received a scholarship to Shaw University where I studied and graduated with a B.A. in music. At Shaw I received several outstanding student awards in my major along with becoming the trumpet section leader my sophomore year. After college I returned to the Bahamas where I entered the area of education and taught in both the public and private institution. During this time I was utilized as band, choir, theory and piano teacher. I also gained a reputation as a performer, composer and arranger in the vocal and instrumental arena.
