About Me

I have been a musician for 24 years and was a thespian at my high school. I also took band and choir. These experiences helped mold me into the professional musician that I strive to be today. I play guitar and percussion as my main instruments as well as vocals, piano, bass, and recording engineering. While attending Lewis and Clark Community College in Godfrey. IL I further pursued my love of music. I took four semesters of music theory, guitar, guitar ensemble, and piano.  I also took two semesters in bass guitar, jazz piano, percussion, and the college choir.   On top of my musical experience I have 4 plus years working in a sales environment that also went hand-in-hand with customer service. I have graduated from LCCC with an Associates in Fine Arts Specializing in Music Performance. I also have a Specialist Certificate from Berklee College of Music, certifying me as an audio engineer. In my certification courses I learned how to record, mix, and master music and audio in general. All of this was done using the Pro Tools software platform. All of the information I learned can be used in the live sound field as well. I have experience running live sound and lighting at Enjoy Church in Alton, IL for 2 years along with playing in the worship band.  I also played in the worship band at St. Paul Methodist Church in East Alton, IL. I now work as the music and sound technician and play in the worship band at The Block Church in East Alton, IL.

Formal Education:

Obtained my Associates in Fine Arts Specializing in Music Performance.  My main instrument concentration was on guitar.  As a part of earning a degree in music I also have four semesters of music theory, piano, and two semesters of bass guitar and vocals including choir.  I took one semester of jazz piano and percussion.  Earned a Specialist Certificate in Audio Engineering through Berklee College of Music Online.

Private Education:

Between taking lessons from friends and aquaintances who played drums and teaching myself I have been playing drums and percussion for 24 years. Before taking college classes for guitar I taught myself how to play guitar and have been practicing and playing guitar for 21 years.

Performing Experience:

I have performed in bands since I was 14 years old. I am 34 now, so I have been performing music for almost 20 years.  I played drums in a band from 2004 to 2009 and we played hundreds of shows, many of which were when we were out on tour.  We toured the midwest multiple times.  Recently most of my performing has been singing and playing guitar in a cover band, which is no longer together, and playing in the worship band at Enjoy Church in Alton, IL. I now perform in the worship band at The Block Church in East Alton, IL, and also run the live sound.

Experience Teaching:

I teach lessons in a freelance form whenever possible. Most of my teaching experience has been teaching my younger cousins and my friends children up until I started working at The Block Church 2 years ago. Since then I have been giving lessons in just about any capacity that has been necessary to bring musicians into our worship team. I have taught many lifelong musicians who have never played in a group setting before how to play together as a full band. I give lessons to others on the side from children to adults from many different backgrounds.

Review:

The most unreliable person I have ever worked with

Justin agreed to teach my son bass guitar. He ghosted us and has the most wild excuses or reasons why he can't be where he says he'll be. Do NOT book this man if you actually want to have a lesson or learn am instrument. Zero stars. Do not recommend. Jennifer wrote on Sat, 08 Jul 2023
