Jonathan is a Chicago-based drummer and teacher. He received training in jazz drum set and classical percussion at the prestigious Alice S. Pfaelzer Conservatory at the Merit School of Music as well as the University of Illinois at Chicago. His teachers included Patricia Dash of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Doug Brush, percussionist for 'Wicked' the Broadway in Chicago musical, Michael Raynor, drummer for GRAMMY®-winning vocalist Kurt Elling, and Ernie Adams of the Chicago Jazz Philharmonic.
Jonathan H has over 6 years of music experience in the Northbrook area.
Jonathan H is proficient in and teaches Drum Lessons .Formal Education:
-University of Illinois at Chicago, 1 year completed of B.M. in Jazz Drum Set Performance -Attended the renowned Alice S. Pfaelzer Tuition-free Conservatory and studied with Doug Brush of Wicked, the Broadway in Chicago Musical
Private Education:
-Studied jazz drum set with Michael Raynor (Kurt Elling, Von Freeman) for two years. -Studied jazz drum set performance with Ernie Adams (Al Di Meola, Dee Alexander, Chicago Jazz Philharmonic) for two years.
Performing Experience:
Currently rehearsing with a jazz trio (Swing State) and Guatemalan singer-songwriter (Sophie Monroy). Performed jazz, pop, and rock music at notable venues including The Metro, The Bottom Lounge, Martyr’s, Subterranean, Bill’s Blues, and the Strawdog Theatre.
Experience Teaching:
Self-Employed| Chicago, IL Private Drum Teacher September 2008-2014. Taught students how to play the drum set at beginner and intermediate levels
