Hello. My name is Skyler. I am 23 years old. I have been playing music almost all my life. I have been playing drums for around 10 years now. I started playing music when I was 8. I started playing guitar first. Then I started playing drums when I was 10 in concert band. I quit playing to focus on playing trumpet. I played trumpet for 4 years. I started playing drums again when I got my first set at 12 and I never looked back. Music is my life. I want my life to revolve around music. I have a small recording studio that I built. I have recorded a few bands and I am currently building a larger studio. I took a couple semesters of recording production. I am in 2 bands. I play drums in one and bass in the other. I also play drums and guitar for my church as well every now and then. Music is my life and I plan on keeping it that way.
Skyler D. has over 10 years of music experience in the Okmulgee area.
Skyler D. is proficient in and teaches Drum Lessons .Formal Education:
I started playing percussion in concert band when I was 10. I quit that to play trumpet because there were too many kids playing percussion. I started playing drums again when I was 12 and I fell in love. I took a few lessons with a teacher in my area for about a year. Once I got the hang of keeping tempo and learning basic beats, I felt I was good enough to start learning at my own pace. I played on my own and started to learn to my own ability and to what genre I wanted to play to. I started watching Drumeo videos and that helped out a lot as well.
Private Education:
My private education only lasted a year. I learned a lot about keeping tempo, playing basic beats, tuning my kit and various basic things.
Performing Experience:
I have been playing drums in a band for around 4 years. I have played in various bands, including rock, country, punk, and have filled in for many different bands. I have played all over Oklahoma as well Texas, Arkansas and Kansas. I have also been a studio session drummer for a couple of recordings and albums for bands.
Experience Teaching:
I have taught a few people in my area. Mostly kids at my church who have wanted to learn how to play. I have taught other people the basics to learning how to play drums. When I was teaching kids in my church, I taught for about 2 years. When I taught, I like to teach to the players ability and to what genre they want to play. I teach the fundamentals and then work my way into teaching them to play by feel and to what they want to learn.
