Uniquely influenced by a mixture of French, Spanish, and African cultures during the 1700s, New Orleans is a port of call unlike any other.  The changing of ruling hands and the constant influx of immigrants and settlers gave Louisiana and its jewel port New Orleans a unique feel in culture, architecture, and of course music.  Mardi Gras is one of the biggest party holidays in the world, and New Orleans is the place to be for it.  This celebration and New Orleans Jazz Fest are well-known for showcasing New Orleans’ famous music: Jazz. Jazz music is one of the few genres indigenous to America, and it was born here in New Orleans. While recent years have seen the emergence in local scenes of hip-hop and southern rock Jazz remains the New Orleans standard along with family genres Blues, Cajun, and Zydeco. Regardless of the style, music is celebrated as part of the proud and joyful local culture in New Orleans. In 2005, New Orleans was ravaged by hurricanes that resulted in the evacuation of the city, death, destruction, and the displacement of countless citizens.  While it has taken years of hard work to rebuild, New Orleans is growing back from the edge of destruction with an enduring spirit the city has always been known for. An interesting side note about New Orleans and its music is that Mardi Gras and the New Orleans Jazz Fest were never canceled in the midst of the hurricane disasters and rebuilding periods, showing the true surviving spirit of this city. The musical connection in New Orleans can be seen everywhere, and we at TR Music & Voice Lessons are proud to have instructors that teach music lessons in such a unique and culture-rich place.
