Killeen began as a town towards the end of the 19th Century, but was a small and unremarkable Texas town until 1942, when Fort Hood would be established as a military training post for American soldiers to be entering World War II. Wartime changed this once slow farming town into a bustling boomtown in a direct relationship with the military camp. This strengthened when Fort Hood was permanently commissioned to continue after the War. A home for many of our nation’s soldiers and their families, Killeenis a solid community that is heavily supported by the military presence.
