5 years ago someone urged me to take up playing the bass after noticing the finesse in which I played solos on Guitar Hero (yes, Guitar Hero can actually lead to playing the real deal). I quickly discovered I had a natural talent for the bass and began taking lessons. I soaked up knowledge of music theory and soon began playing for a punk band called "Sexy Trash". This experience was invaluable as I learned to play live and with other musicians. I also began playing for the worship team at my church. During this time I fell in love with the Blues. I knew playing with a punk band would limit my experience with other genres and so I began playing open mics and subbing for various bands around the metroplex. I now play in a cover band that does a wide variety of music including classic rock, modern rock, punk, country and blues. I play the bass only and feel it is important to understand the unique and valuable roll the bass plays in any song. Music theory is not difficult and is important to the creative process. It is also important to realize that the bass is a rhythm instrument and one must explore the rhythmic and percussive abilities of the bass. Other than that, the bass is FUN!!! I can't imagine devoting my time to another instrument.
