Degree and Field of Study:
What to expect in my Keyboard and Piano Lessons
Piano and keyboard students can expect coaching on the following fundamentals: proper playing posture fingers/hands/wrists/arms/upper body, scale and fingering technique, music notation and reading skills, and repertoire building. If students are interested in electronic keyboards, I can also teach some synthesizer techniques.
What to expect in my Vocal Lessons
My vocal training is primarily in classical solo and choral technique; however, my personal style also draws heavily from pop and jazz. Students can expect to receive coaching in whatever genre most inspires them, with focus on the following: proper breath support and posture, vocal health/maintenance, tone quality control, range expansion, ear training, and repertoire building. The overall aim will be to help the student develop a personal vocal style that fits their natural range and timbre.
What to expect in my Song Writing Lessons
Song writing and composition students can expect to receive guidance on developing a personal musical style, with focus on the following fundamentals: theory and notation, ear-training, basic keyboard skills, lyricism/poetic expression, analytical/close listening, and some music history. Lessons will cater to the student's individual needs and interests but will also include "listening homework" and exposure to new styles to help expand their imaginative palate and compositional toolbox.
