Hi, my name is Mj and I am from Olive Branch, MS. I have been a student of music for 13 years. I am working toward my doctorate in Music Performance at University of Memphis. My teaching style can best be described as flexible but whimsical. My teaching philosophy can best be described by saying that I try to relate music to the whole person. In my lessons, you can expect to learn classical techniques without the stuff music! Unless you like stuff music, and then we can do that. I like to tell my students that singing is a part of being. It’s not about being successful; it’s about having fun! My favorite thing about teaching is seeing my students learn in real time. My favorite performance was when I was in The Pirates of Penzance. My students love that I am not afraid to be silly or serious with them based on what the situation calls for. I primarily teach voice, but I can also teach beginner piano, music theory, and Alexander Technique.
