About Me

I have been playing guitar since my parents bought "Country and Blues Guitar for the Musically Hopeless" for me at age 19. I have lived in Charleston for 9 years with my wife, Marilyn, and my three children. I work for Fellowship of Oakbrook in Summerville and serve as an Army Chaplain with the SC Army National Guard. My teaching style focuses on whatever music interests the student, using that to help them learn. I primarily focus on rhythm guitar and bass.

Formal Education:

Both my Bachelor's and Master's degrees are in education, and I was working on a double major in music before I got married, so I finished my Master's degree with what amounts to a minor in music. I took theory and teach some theory as I teach guitar.

Private Education:

I taught myself to play the guitar and have learned from various people I have encountered over the years. I have taken private voice lessons as well.

Performing Experience:

I have been performing vocally and traveling since I was 12. I have been leading worship with guitar since 1998. I write music periodically.

Experience Teaching:

I have worked for over 20 years with students in various churches. I have also taught school on multiple occasions in the middle school, high school, and college levels. I have given lessons to many people over the years. My greatest passion is working with children and teens. I am very good with kids. Currently, I lead the children's ministry at Fellowship of Oakbrook in Summerville, SC.
