About Me

Hi! My name is Katie and I am a Voice Major Student and Teacher from Crofton MD I have been a student of music for 10 years. My musical influences include Musical Theater and I also enjoy Classical/Opera. My teaching style can best be described as collaborative and fun. My teaching philosophy can best be described by saying that I want students to continue their love for performing and finding confidence. In my lessons, you can expect to learn techniques such as breath support, diction, and lots of character work! I like to tell my students that their art is necessary and means something. My favorite thing about teaching is getting to nerd out and get students excited about music. My favorite performance is a tie between my High School musical 9 to 5 and JMU Opera’s The Little Prince. My students love that I acknowledge that we are both learning togetherI primarily teach Musical Theater but I can also teach English and Italian Art Songs. My approach as a teacher is to find the strengths and weaknesses of a singer and provide specific feedback that encourages a healthy relationship with music. I acknowledge that I don’t have the most teaching experience but I love working with kids and want to start somewhere! Thank you for your time and hope to meet you soon!
