Emmitt is a trumpet player graduating from UMKC Conservatory with a Masters of Arts in Music with an emphasis in performance. During his time in graduate studies his focus has been on honing trumpet pedagogy and chamber ensemble performance/coaching skills. If you like playing duets, solos, etudes, learning music by ear, and developing your trumpet technique-then Emmitt is the teacher for you! Emmitts approach to teaching is a mindful one because he believes that it is his job to not only teach trumpet, but to teach how to approach the trumpet. Emmitt likes to have his students pick a famous trumpet player and piece of music that inspires his students. Then every etude, technical exercise and solo is in effort of achieving their dream sound/piece. This requires patience, a growth mindset, and a willingness to make mistakes. Emmitt promises to meet each student where they are at each day as well as lean into the thoughtful questions his students ask to help guide his approach to student centered teaching.
