Dr. Sarahis a music educator, ethnomusicologist, and multi-instrumentalist with experience teaching students of all ages and skill levels. She holds a Ph.D. in Ethnomusicology, a Master’s degree in Music, and a Bachelor’s degree in Music Education with an emphasis in brass and woodwind methodologies. Dr. Strothers currently teaches music in the public school system and has also taught at the university level. Her teaching experience includes concert band, world music, music appreciation, beginning instrumental instruction, music theory, aural skills, and private lessons. She specializes in creating engaging and culturally diverse learning experiences that help students build confidence, discipline, creativity, and musical expression. As a performer, Dr. Strothers is a Shihan-level shakuhachi master in the Dyokyoku lineage and has performed traditional Japanese music in educational, cultural, and concert settings. In addition to shakuhachi, she has extensive experience in trumpet, French horn, woodwinds, percussion, and contemporary music styles. She is passionate about helping students discover their unique musical voice while developing strong technical foundations. Her accomplishments include curriculum development, ensemble leadership, academic research, lecture-recitals, and community arts outreach. Dr. Strothers believes music education should inspire curiosity, personal growth, and a lifelong appreciation for the arts.
