Guitar Lessons
26 Years
I am passionate & deeply invested in teaching music performance & music theory. This is my life's work & I really love what I do. I began my journey as a musician as a self-taught guitarist who learned by developing my ear & listening to recordings & also listening & watching musicians & learning things along the way from them. I had no lessons until a much later date. Eventually, the desire to learn all I could led me to jam sessions, open mics, blues jams, punk clubs, jazz sessions, salons, cafes and public libraries, where I researched all I could learn about music theory & how the mechanics of music worked. I eventually taught myself to read music notation. I decided after some time working as a performer & having recorded & releasing music of my own that I needed to get a more comprehensive education so I studied in New York with Woody Mann, & Peter Mazza & then also studied with Mike Kennedy in Philadelphia which eventually led to my studies in Boston at Berklee. I gained a lot from that experience & entered deeper into a career in music as a performer, writer and now, also a teacher! I have many years of successful teaching experience and real-world experience from which to draw. I have recorded, toured & performed in the states & in other parts of the world & also have experience in the record industry & have worked in stage management & artist management. In order to further solidify my credentials, I also attended the Los Angeles Music Academy on scholarship now known as the Los Angeles College of Music where I further developed as a player & forged life-long bonds with other kindred spirits in this musical journey. Please contact me & allow me to help you reach your musical goals! I know how to de-mystify this pursuit & break down this subject into a very easily understood approach. Let's get to the music & have some fun! __________________________________________________________ Mission Statement: Scotty offers instruction in music theory, ear training, arranging & composition and improvisation techniques, with a comprehensive knowledge based on extensive training both on stage and in the classroom. As a teacher of guitar, ukulele, bass guitar and music theory, in a patient and relaxed atmosphere, I stress the importance of trusting one’s ear and innate musical sense. I am interested in presenting the student with the tools to make music without fear or intimidation and I am dedicated to the de-mystification of the process of learning this instrument and give all that I can to instill confidence and understanding. I have developed an effective means of explaining what would seem elusive and daunting, in a clear and instantly useful manner and students are able to build upon this knowledge and apply it to the instrument and make music! I provide students a patient and thorough explanation of techniques and terms through unique methods that I have developed through years of successful instruction. I make the experience challenging, rewarding and above all, FUN! Scotty offers instruction in music theory, composition, ear training and techniques on the guitar that can help you reach further musical goals.
