About Me

Kopi (Matthew) is a Classically Trained Musician, reading and writing music, playing a diverse portfolio of instruments (Guitar, Bass, Drums and Salsa Percussion), specializing in Latin Jazz, Jazz, Rock, Funk, Punk and more, and has even toured Asia.

Matthew Ko- has over 28 years of music experience in the Asheville area.

What to expect in my Guitar Lessons

Beginner - Intermediate - Advanced

To practice the equivalent of 30min / day :-) Also, to learn songs you love, and although it's up to you, I'll encourage studying music theory as well, so as to have a long career in music. From Rock/Metal all the way to Afro-Cuban/Salsa!



Formal Education:

BA Psychology (Univ. of Central FL), study under Musician's Institute Hollywood graduates, Japanese professors (4 years in Japan), Afro Cuban studies (Ed Uribe), trips to Colombia

Performing Experience:

Punk Rock bands from age 12 (State Theatre in S Pete etc.), Jazz bands in High School, ska bands, jazz and salsa bands.

Experience Teaching:

Since 2000. Also teaching English in Japan from 2006 to 2010. Substitute Teaching circa 2005. Professor's TA at Univ. of Central FL (two separate instructors for 2.5 years).
