About Me
Hello! My name is Derek, and I’m a guitar teacher here in Dayton. Originally from the boonies of southern Ohio, I’ve lived in the Dayton area for around 10 years now. By day, I’m a cyber security specialist supporting the fine men and women at Wright Patt. By night, I can usually be found tinkering with guitars, whether it be playing them or repairing them.

Beginner - Advanced - Intermediate
During our initial lesson, I like to have a conversation with you in regards to your musical tastes, any background you have with musical instruments guitar or otherwise, and what goals you have as a musician. From there, we cover some of the basics of the instrument, including note placement, basic technique, nomenclature, and whatever other questions you may have This gives us the knowledge to formulate a game plan moving forward.
Formal Education:
I have no formal education in music. My music education has always been private, and later self-taught.
Private Education:
Guitar lessons from 10-14, and mostly self study since then, in addition to all the great online learning material made available my platforms such as Patreon and YouTube.
Performing Experience:
I was less guitarist for a band in my teens, playing mostly around the Cincinnati area, and one CD of mostly original songs.
Experience Teaching:
I have taught whenever possible for the last 6 years. I tailor my lessons according to what you want to learn, and I put a hearty emphasis on technique. I’m not here to teach you the music I like, I’m here for you to find your strengths and weaknesses, to build on whatever musical foundation you might have, and to help give you the tools to achieve your own personal goals.
